BOOK PRESENTATIONS
The Carola Association arranges several activities designed to preserve the memory of Baroness Elemér Bornemissza, Carola Szilvássy and at the same time inform others of her very diverse interests and multifaceted personality. In 2019, her remarkable story was promoted with book presentations, performances and culinary events, among other programmes. One key moment last year was the publication by Szépmíves Publishing House of the work Candid Notes of Cluj-Napoca (Kolozsvár) (Kendőzetlen feljegyzések Kolozsvárról), which Zsuzsa Szebeni, director of the Sfântu Gheorghe (Sepsiszentgyörgy) branch of the Balassi Institute – Cultural Centre of Hungary, presented to the media.
The book contains the literary legacy, manuscripts and correspondence of Carola Szilvássy. With their publication, the name of this Transylvanian noblewoman has finally been entered into Hungarian cultural history. The volume was presented in several cities in Transylvania and Hungary, thus many have been able to learn – at events from mass-attraction summer festivals through the House of Hungarians to small Reformed congregations – about the fascinating personality of Carola Szilvássy.
Last year, the book was mentioned at the series of events in the Bálványos Summer Open University and Student Camp (Tusványos 30), in Brâncovenești (Marosvécs) at the gathering of Helikon descendants, the 10th Hungarian Cultural Days of Kolozsvár (Cluj-Napoca) and the Silver Academy for senior citizens of the Sapientia University. Most recently, the volume was put on display in the House of Hungarians in Budapest in February 2020. In addition to the members of the Carola Association, several well-known experts and performers with connections to the topic took part in the nationwide promotion.
